The Music Run

The Music Run

Something super exciting this way comes… THE MUSIC RUN! Brought to you by Old Mutual, the music run is the ultimate 5km running experience and even better, its the first of its kind on African soil. Taking place solely in Johannesburg on the 4 of February 2017. How better to enter the new year with a quick 5km run that ends in one of the top music festivals this country will see.

The music run was first held in Kuala Lumpur in 2014 and it has gained more and more popularity even since. Spanning 9 different countries, experienced by more than 100 000 participants, they have finally decided to expand it to Africa and we are the lucky city that gets to experience it first!

It may sound like your normal 5km mini marathon but I promise you it is not! The music run empowers participants to control the soundtrack of the run by voting for their favourite songs in the build up to the event. The Voting takes place via a ‘Music Voting app’ and the songs with the most votes make the official run playlist. On the day, runners will experience the worlds loudest 5km running course, known as the ‘Sound Track’. More than 120 speakers will pump out the most popular songs as voted by you.

Each Kilometre of the race will be broken down into music genres. There is Pop, rock, Dance, Hip-Hop and Old School. Each zone will be kitted out according to their themes- so expect to take loads of selfies and get lost within each genre.

Probably the best part of the day ( as I am not a runner) will be the ultimate after-run Music festival. Expect the best Dj’s, live bands, dancers, laser lights, LED Screens, chill out zones, giveaways and plenty more.

Be sure not to miss out on this one-of-a-kind event that represents a new wave of marathons to hit South Africa.
