I am sure by now you already know what Big Bad Wolf stands for, for those that don’t let me refresh your memory. Big Bad Wolf is all about empowering South African based brands, designers and everything in between. I guess it was written in the stars when I was randomly introduced to Lizel Strydom- co-founder/co-creator of Missibaba, a luxury accessory label. Missibaba is not merely here to supply the best bags and accessories in the business ( which they do) they are passionate about South Africa and giving back to the community they come from. With a team 0f 8 dynamic women working alongside Lizel and fellow partner and creator- Chloe, it is no wonder Missibaba has become this weeks Women Crush Wednesday.
My random meeting with Lizel can be summed up in one word- passion. In a matter of seconds Lizel was encompassing everything that makes me excited about the fashion industry in South Africa. Fashion with a conscious. Each member of the Missibaba studio has an important role to play in the making of their luxury goods. So… Meet the team. There is Mariam, Robyn, Des, Tess, Glynis, Beauty, Naomi and Nombuko who work alongside Chloe and Lizel.
I love that I know the names of the women who have put their hard work into each piece. These pieces are not just human-less garments without a story ( or rather a horror story of sweatshops). Each member deals with different aspects, from hand cutting the leather to the stitching and the over-all design of the accessory. Each piece is one of a kind and is made with the heart and soul every garment so deserves.
With their newly opened store in one of Johannesburg’s most exciting streets ( Keyes Art Mile), Missibaba has set the standards for shopping with a conscious. Pop into their newly designed store and see the beauty of each bag and accessory for yourself! Their Zodiac Collection ( a personal favourite) and the Palermo Backseat Backpacks are something special. So the next time you in the mood to treat yourself or are looking for something special head on over to Missibaba.
